CA?gliari has a great range of restaurants , many clustered around Via Sardegna. Almost all have competitively-priced tourist menus, which aren't at all bad though they don't offer very much choice. Recommended restaurant options range from "Inexpensive" (L25,000) to "Moderate" (L25,000-40,000), or "Expensive" (L40,000- 70,000) according to the amount one person might expect to pay for a full meal including wine and cover charge. For a morning coffee or afternoon tea, Piazza Yenne makes a pleasant, relatively traffic-free alternative to the bustling cafAŠs on Via Roma, while, outside the centre, Poetto is a blitz of bars, fairgrounds and ice-cream kiosks - a good place to while away a summer evening. CA?gliari also has a couple of lively places for late-night drinking , listed below.

La Damigiana , Corso Vittorio Emanuele 115. Good fixed-price meals popular with locals are served in this basic place. Closed Mon evening, and Tues evening from Oct-Easter. Inexpensive.

Da Fabio , Via Sardegna 90, on the corner with Via Concezione. Easy-going trattoria which offers tourist menus and pizzas and has an English-speaking boss. Closed Mon & two weeks in Sept. Moderate.

Il Gatto , Viale Trieste 15, just off Piazza del CA?rmine. Away from the port, and with a smarter feel than the places there, this little restaurant offers immaculately prepared seafood and meat dishes. Closed Sat lunch & all day Sun. Moderate.

Da Lillicu , Via Sardegna 78 (tel 070.652.970). Serves a small but reliable range of authentic Sard specialities on marble tables. It's very popular with locals, so you'll need to book ahead. Closed Sun. Moderate.

Il Merlo Parlante , Via Portascalas. Hidden down an alley off the middle of Corso Vittorio Emanuele, this small but popular students' hangout offers beer, panini and music until late. Closed daytime. Inexpensive.

Da Serafino , at Via Sardegna 109 and Via Lepanto 6. Popular place offering honest, local dishes served without formality, extremely good value. Closed Thurs & Aug. Inexpensive.

Sotto La Torre , Piazza San Giuseppe. Located opposite the Torre dell'Elefante, a great place for a snack and a drink from early morning to late at night. Tables in small, stylish rooms help create a relaxed atmosphere. Inexpensive.

Stella Marina di Montecristo , Via Sardegna 142 (tel 070.666.692). Tucked away at the end of the strip, where Via Sardegna meets Via Regina Margherita, this is a great choice for seafood-lovers, worth booking at weekends. Closed Mon. Moderate-Expensive.
