For food , the excellent gastronomie that cluster along Corso Garibaldi and the Corso Campi make good places to put together a picnic, while Pizzeria Cremonese , Piazza Roma 39 (closed Mon), is a cheap and popular place to sit down and eat. There are also lots of places to try local specialities: the Trattoria da Cerri , Piazza Giovanni XXIII 3 (closed Tues & Wed), off Via Aselli, and the Ristorante Centrale , off Via Solferino at Via Pertusio 4 (closed Thurs), are both very good, if not especially cheap. Albergo Duomo , on Via Gonfalonieri 13, down the side of the Palazzo Comunale is a popular place, worth booking if you want a table outside in the evening (tel 0372.352.96). If it's on the menu, try a bollito misto - a mixture of boiled meats, served with Cremonese mostarda di frutta , consisting of fruit suspended in a sweet mustard syrup. Around Piazza del Comune and Piazza della Pace there are several very pleasant pavement cafes and gelaterie in which to while away the time. Three minutes' walk out of the centre of town, the charming Palazzo Cattaneo on Via Oscasali houses a new cultural association cum bar-cafA©, KantcaffA© (daily 3pm-midnight), which organizes a programme of temporary exhibitions and concerts using the palace building, the wine vaults and the garden. The bar itself, with tables and chairs dotted around the leafy garden, is a wonderfully tranquil spot, and it also has a computer for Internet access.
