buses
arrive at the Porta Napoli, the FSE bus station (tel 0832.347.634) on Via Torre del Parco, or the STP bus station on Via Adua. FSE and FS
trains
(tel 0832.668.233) use the same station, a kilometre south of the centre at the end of Via Oronzo Quarta. The
tourist office
is on Via Vittorio Emanuele II at no. 24 (Mon-Tues 10am-1pm & 5-7pm, Weds-Sat 10am-1pm; tel 0832.248.092).
The cheapest place to stay is the Oasi , Via Mangionello 3 (tel 0832.351.359; L60,000-90,000/€30.99-46.48), though it's pretty basic. If your budget will run to it, give yourself a treat and book in at the Art Nouveau Grand Hotel , Viale Oronzo Quarta 28 (tel 0832.309.405; L120,000-150,000/€61.98-77.47), just outside the station - for once, a fairly salubrious area; the bedrooms are pretty plain, but the building is gorgeous. Also near the station Cappello , Via Montegrappa 4 (tel 0832.308.881; L60,000-90,000/€30.99-46.48), is friendly and efficiently run. More imposing is Risorgimento , Via Augusto Imperatore (tel 0832.242.125; L150,000-200,000/€77.47-103.29), a sandstone palazzo dating back to the early 1900s with elegant interiors, just off Piazza S Oronzo. Otherwise, the tourist office can help you find a reasonably priced private room or check out the Web site www.caffeletto.it for B&B options in historic buildings in the old town and on the outskirts of Lecce - many are beautiful, albeit at a price. The closest campsite is at TORRE RINALDA , 10km north of Lecce; hourly buses run from the Piazza Sant'Oronzo to Camping Torre Rinalda (tel 0832.382.161) on the Salentine coast.
