Olbia has several good, central hotels , though most are on the expensive side. Cheapest choice lies just along from the tourist office on Via Vespucci, the Mastino (tel 0789.21.130; L60,000-90,000/a?¬30.99-46.48), with somewhat shabby rooms, though these may improve as at the time of writing it was in the process of changing hands. Round the corner on Via Garibaldi, the Minerva (tel 0789.21.190; L90,000-120,000/a?¬46.48-61.98) offers more comforts, while at the Gallura at Corso Umberto 145: (tel 0789.24.648; closed Dec; L150,000-200,000/a?¬77.47-103.29), you get TVs, minibars, air-conditioning and breakfast thrown in, and there's a first-class restaurant on the ground floor. The nearest campsite is at LocalitA  Cugnana (tel 0789.33.184; mid-May to Sept), 10km north of town; it's also the closest to the Costa Smeralda, and consequently can get crowded. There's a pool and bungalows are also available (L120,000-150,000/a?¬61.98-77.47); from Olbia, 4-5 buses daily stop right outside.

As for eating , the small and elegant Zhanto , just off the Corso on Via delle Terme (closed Sun), offers good value and is always busy with locals; it serves pizzas at lunchtime. Also good for pizza is the subterranean La Lanterna , off the other side of the Corso on Via Olbia (closed Wed), which offers a vegetarian choice too. La Datcha , near the central Piazza Margherita at Via Cavour 3 (no closing day), is an osteria with good-value dishes-of-the-day and some benches outside. CaffA© Cosimino , on Piazza Margherita (closed Sun), is a good place for coffees and fresh cornetti ; with seating both inside - where the walls have faded photos of old Olbia - and outside.
