fiogf49gjkf0d San Gimignano has very few direct buses from anywhere other than the ugly industrial town of
Poggibonsi
, 8km east: you're likely to have to call in here to transfer. From Poggibonsi train station (on the Florence-Empoli-Siena line), walk the length of platform 1, exit the gates and cross the road to reach the bus bays. TRA-IN buses drop off at both San Gimignano's main gates,
Porta San Giovanni
in the south and
Porta San Matteo
in the north. From each, the main streets Via San Giovanni and Via San Matteo climb to meet in the middle of town at the interlocking squares of
Piazza Duomo
and
Piazza della Cisterna
, where you'll find the Pro Loco
tourist office
, Piazza Duomo 1 (daily: March-Oct 9am-1pm & 3-7pm; Nov-Feb 9am-1pm & 2-6pm; tel 0577.940.008,
