Although there isn't that much to see underwater at Ocho Rios's main beach - you'll find much richer pickings east of the harbour or at the reef at the bottom of Dunn's River - the sand is lined with watersports concessions . Prices are fairly high - even snorkel equipment can cost as much as US$20 per day, though bargaining usually brings this down a bit and you might get better deals toward the quieter, western edge of the beach. Touts roam the sand offering jet-ski rides (30min; US$50), banana boat rides (30min; US$25), water-skiing (about US$50 for three laps of the bay), and parasailing (10-15min; US$50). You can also take a glass-bottom boat ride; many go along the coast toward Dunn's River Falls, at a cost of around US$20 per person plus entry to the falls. For scuba diving , try Resort Divers at 2 Island Plaza (tel 876/974-5338), which also offers deep-sea fishing from US$300 per half-day.

Many private boats offer pleasure cruises . Day trips go to Dunn's River for snorkelling and climbing the falls, with an open bar and lunch or snacks; sunset cruises include drinks only. Most operators offer dinner cruises, too. Visitors usually book via the agents who stake out the beaches. One of the better operators is Red Stripe (tel 876/974-2446), which runs a day cruise to Dunn's River (3hr; US$45) and a sunset soca cruise (2hr; US$25). All prices are per person; trips leave on Tuesday, Thursday and Saturday.
