Banks and exchange There are several banks along the main road leading southeast from Kanazawa Station, as well as around Korinbo.

Bike rental Bicycles can be rented (daily 9am-5pm) from outside the west exit of Kanazawa Station. Two hours for ?300, or ?1000 a day; the Kanazawa Youth Hostel is cheaper, but you'll have to push the bike up a steep hill on the way back to the hostel.

Bookshops The best selection of English-language books and magazines can be found in the Rifare Building underneath the Ishikawa Foundation for International Exchange, 5min walk southeast of Kanazawa Station.

Car rental Both Toyota Rent-a-lease Ishikawa (tel 0762/61-4100) and Nippon Rent-a-car (tel 0762/63-0919) are close by Kanazawa Station.

Hospital The main hospital is Kanazawa University Hospital, 13-1 Takaramachi (tel 0762/62-8151), around 1km southeast of Kenroku-en.

Post office The Central Post Office is a long way from any of Kanazawa's main tourist spots. The most convenient branch is the one at Korinbo.
