eat
clustered on or around Chuo-dori; in the evenings, try the lively Gondo arcade leading east from Chuo-dori to Gondo Station. To sample
shojin ryori
, the expensive vegetarian cuisine prepared for the monks, head for the area around Zenko-ji. Soba is available at most places around town. The many small
bars
around Gondo tend to be pricey, but if you're looking for a cool spot for a drink in summer, don't overlook the beer garden on top of Nagano Dentetsu Building, at the eastern end of the Gondo arcade. Other useful information
