fiogf49gjkf0d Finding your way around Sapporo is easy compared to many other Japanese cities because every address has a precise location within the city's
grid plan
. The city blocks are named and numbered according to the compass points, the apex being the TV Tower in
Odori-koen
, the
park
that bisects Sapporo from east to west - Sapporo Station, for example, is six blocks' north of the TV Tower and three blocks' west, so its address is North Six, West Three. Between the station and Odori-koen lies the commercial district, with its department stores, banks and government offices. To the west of here are the old Hokkaido Government Building and the Botanical Gardens, while to the east stands the old Sapporo Factory, now a trendy shopping and entertainment mall. Northeast of the station, beer is still brewed at the Sapporo Beer Garden and Museum, while to the west you'll find the extensive grounds of Hokkaido University. The entertainment district of
Susukino
lies directly south of Odori-koen and further south is another park, Nakajima-koen.
