It doesn't take long to realize that commerce is Nairobi's
raison d'A?tre
. Disappointingly perhaps, the form which trade takes here is not always very exotic. But Nairobi is the best place in East Africa to buy
handicrafts
, with the widest (if not the cheapest) selection and the best facilities for posting the stuff home. The city also has some lavish
produce markets
, enjoyable even if you only want to browse.
Bargaining
is expected at all Nairobi's markets and most shops, with the exception of supermarkets and stores selling imported goods. Be aware, however, that the "last price" will vary seasonally and can sky-rocket when a major conference hits town. Other useful information
