fiogf49gjkf0d Long-distance
buses
arrive at one of the two
bus stations
, inconveniently situated on the southern outskirts of the town. The state bus company, SKMK, operates from the Langgar bus station on Jalan Pasir Puteh, as does the MARA company, which runs buses to KL and Singapore; other companies use the larger bus station on Jalan Hamzah, which also has a left-luggage facility. If you arrive at night, you're at the mercy of the unofficial taxis at the stations, whose drivers can charge up to RM15 for the two-kilometre drive to the centre: the daytime charge is around RM4. The
local bus station
, where buses from Kuala Terengganu arrive, is on Jalan Padong Garong; SKMK also operates some services from here and has an information counter (daily 8am-9pm; closed Fri 12.45pm-2pm). The
long-distance taxi
stand is behind the bus station on Jalan Doktor.
The nearest
train station
to Kota Bharu is 7km to the west at Wakaf Bharu, the penultimate stop on the jungle railway
. From here it's a twenty-minute ride into town on bus #19 or #27. The
airport
is 9km northeast of the centre; a taxi into town costs RM15 - buy a coupon from the taxi counter in the airport. Tours to local craft workshops and homestays can be booked at the
Tourist Information Centre
(Sun-Thurs 8am-1pm & 2-4.45pm; tel 09/748 5534) on Jalan Sultan Ibrahim.
