City transport

The city centre is compact enough to traverse on foot in half an hour. Taxis should cross town for RM6, and there are ranks outside the Hyatt Hotel on Jalan Datuk Salleh Sulong, at the GPO on Jalan Tun Razak, and at Centrepoint shopping centre on Lebuh Raya Pantai Baru. Book a taxi on either 088/52113 or 51863.

Taking a bus is more complicated, as there is no visible order in the ranks of minibuses which gather on a patch of gravel behind the Centre Point Plaza. Transport to the suburbs and the airport leave when full from this minibus terminal. The bus stop opposite the GPO on Jalan Tun Razak is the starting point for scheduled buses travelling through KK's suburbs as far as Tuaran in the north and Penampang in the south; they are cheaper than minibuses, leave at set times, but take longer.
