For reasonably inexpensive food , head for Morelos and the streets away from the waterfront. The more touristy places - some of them the most expensive in Baja - cluster around the marina and along Hidalgo. At night, such places compete for the custom of partying visitors by offering happy hours (often 6-8pm) and novel cocktails. There's little to choose between them; stroll along and take your pick.

Billygan's Island , Playa Medano. One of the three beach bar-restaurants that cater for beach-party goers, from 9am till 11pm.

Cabo Wabo , Guerrero between LA©zaro CA©rdenas and Madero. Van Halen-owned club fashioned in their image; Sammy often takes the stage. Loud and lively but often with a hefty cover charge.

Francisco's CafA© del Mundo , marina waterfront. The best coffee in town. Delicious cakes, US papers, magazines and a harbour view.

Giggling Marlin , Blvd Marina at Matamoros. A Cabo institution, drawing an older set than other choices on the strip. Mostly a place to drink and dance to Latin standards: chances of getting out without hearing La Bamba are slim.

La Perla , LA©zaro CA©rdenas between Matamoros and Abasolo. Very inexpensive and thoroughly Mexican place right in the tourist zone. Good Mexican staples and licuados.

Mariscos Mocambo , Morelos at RevoluciA?n. Unpretentious seafood restaurant popular with Mexicans.

Oye Como Va , Guerrero at Zapata. New curbside Mexican joint with exceptional and cheap tortas, tacos, and breakfasts and comida corrida.

Restaurant Latitude 22+ , LA©zaro CA©rdenas, east of Morelos. One of the nicer, less noisy US-style restaurants, done out in a nautical theme.

Restaurant Orale , Zaragoza and 16 de Septiembre. A down-to-earth, cheap, Mexican place. Great food, friendly staff.

The Barn (El Establo) , Zaragoza and NiA±os HA©roes. Friendly little bar.

The Office , Playa MA©dano. Restaurant and bar which, along with its neighbours, Billygan's Island and Pirata Cavendish , pumps out rock classics and offers happy hours. Expensive food and not to everyone's taste.
