fiogf49gjkf0d The centre of Tuxtla has dozens of
restaurants
, and you need never wander more than a block or so either side of Av Central to find something in every price range. Juice bars are everywhere, and there are also some great bakeries along Av Central. The very
cheapest
places are on Av 2 Sur, while between the second-class bus area and the centre you'll pass several tiny, family-run restaurants, each serving an excellent-value comida corrida. More cheap places to eat can be found in the Mercado DAaz OrdA?z, C Central Sur, between avenidas 3 and 4 Sur.
All the larger hotels have a restaurant attached, and these are often good value.
Gringo's Chicken
, on C 2 Ote just south of Av Central, may satisfy a longing for cooking
estilo Americano
, though the combination of southern-fried chicken with chile, tortillas and Southern-fried potatoes is uniquely Mexican. There's another
Gringo's
a few blocks west at the corner of Av 1 Sur Pte and C 2 Pte Sur; both branches also serve a range of good-value Mexican dishes. And for a really good, inexpensive comida corrida try the
Restaurante del Centro
, C 2 Ote Sur.
Most popular for socializing and people-watching are the swish
restaurants
on C 2 Ote Sur, behind the cathedral, always packed with smartly dressed locals. Prices for the Mexican food at
La Parroquia
, under the portales behind the cathedral, are not too high, and there's a good breakfast buffet. Next door, the
Trattoria San Marco
serves good portions of pizza, Mexican food, and great gateaux at slightly higher prices. For
vegetarian
food, try
Naturalissimo
, just off Av Central at C 6 Pte Nte, west of the zA?calo. It's inexpensive, clean and modern, with a great daily special. Opposite, there's a good bread and cheese shop. The
CafA© Avenida
, next to the
Hotel Avenida
, at Av Central 224, is an authentic Mexican coffee shop, and there's a good
bakery
in the block west of the cafA©.
