Leiden's train and bus stations are both situated on the northwest edge of town, no more than ten minutes' walk from the centre. The VVV , a short walk from the stations at Stationsweg 2d (Mon-Fri 10am-6.30pm, Sat 10am-2pm; tel 0900/222 2333; www.leiden.nl ), has a tourist guide and, for a a?¬1 charge, can book private rooms (A?10-15/$16-24/a?¬18-27). The cheapest central accommodation is The Rose , Beestenmarkt 14 (tel 071/514 6630; A?20-25/$32-40/a?¬36-45). For a much better deal try Pension Witte Singel , Singel 80 (tel 071/512 4592; A?15-20/$24-32/a?¬27-36) about fifteen minutes' walk from the station, or Pension Schaefer , Herensingel 1a (tel 071/521 8104; A?10-15/$16-24/a?¬18-27), ten minutes' walk from the station. The closest campsite is Koningshof (tel 071/402 6051) in RIJNSBURG , 6km north of Leiden (bus #40). For lunch , M'n Broer , by the Pieterskerk at Kloksteeg 7, has a reasonable Dutch menu, while Barrera , on Rapenburg, has good sandwiches. In the evening, De Brasserie , Lange Mare 38, has Dutch food; Splinter is a pleasant, reasonably priced vegetarian restaurant at Noordeinde 30; and the studenty La Bota , Herensteeg 11, by the Pieterskerk, has great-value food and beers. The Central Library, Nieuwstraat 4 (tel 071/514 9943) has Internet access.
