International and domestic trains use Oslo Sentralstasjon, known as Oslo S , at the eastern end of the city centre. The central bus terminal (Bussterminalen) is connected to the Oslo S by a bridge on the northeast corner of the building. It handles most of the bus services within the city as well as those to and from the airport. Long-distance buses arrive and depart here too, but note that some services terminate on the south side of Oslo S at the bus stands beside Havnegata. For all bus enquiries, consult the information desk (Mon-Fri 7am-10pm, Sat 8am-5.30pm & Sun 8am-10pm). Ferries arrive at either the Vippetangen quays (Stena Line and DFDS), a fifteen-minute walk south of Oslo S, or at Hjortneskaia (Colorline), some 3km west of the city centre; take bus #56 to the centre - an infrequent service, though it's mostly linked to ferry arrival times - or, failing that, a taxi to Oslo S (100kr). Catamarans ( Hurtigbt ) from Arendal, on the south coast, dock at the Palekaia, a five- to ten-minute walk south from Oslo S. Oslo's gleaming new Gardermoen airport , 45km north of the city, is linked to Oslo S by high-speed train and bus. The former is faster, the latter a tad cheaper. There is also a secondary airport at Torp, 100km southwest of Oslo by the city of Sandefjord. The best way to get to Oslo from Torp is by bus, 150kr return or 98kr single.

The main tourist office is in the Norwegian Information Centre down on the harbourfront at Brynjulf Bulls plass 1 (April, May & Sept Mon-Sat 9am-5pm; June-Aug daily 9am-7pm; Oct-March Mon-Fri 9am-4pm; tel 22 83 00 50, www.oslopro.no ). They issue a free and detailed guide to the city, provide a monthly free listings booklet What's On , give away maps and help you find accommodation. They also sell the useful Oslo Card , which gives free admission to most of the museums, discounts in shops and restaurants and unlimited free travel on the transport system, including ferries. Valid for one, two or three days, it costs 180kr, 290kr and 390kr respectively.
