As befits a capital city, Oslo boasts scores of
eating places
, the sheer variety ensuring there's something to suit almost every budget. Those carefully counting the kroner will find it easy to buy bread, fruit, snacks and sandwiches from stalls, shops and kiosks across the city centre, while fast-food joints offering hamburgers and hot dogs (

) are legion. Far more interesting are the city's
cafAŠs
. These run the gamut from homely family places to student haunts and ultra-fashionable hangouts, but nearly all of them serve inexpensive lunches and sometimes bargain evening meals too. It's worth noting that quite a few of the cafAŠs listed could equally be slotted into our "Pubs and Bars" section as the distinction between Oslo's cafAŠs and bars is often very blurred. Regular
restaurants
are more expensive and frequently rather staid, but even here it's possible to find some excellent deals, especially if you stick to pizza and pasta in one of the many Italian places. Other useful information
