International ferries arrive a short walk northwest of Torget, docking at the Strandkaien quay. Express boats from Bergen alight at the terminal on the northwest side of Skagen. The airport is 14km south of the city at Sola: a flybussen (40kr) runs into Stavanger, dropping you at the bus and train station on the south side of Breiavatnet. The tourist office on Rosenkildetorget 1 (June-Aug daily 9am-8pm; rest of year Mon-Fri 9am-4pm, Sat 9am-2pm; www.visitstavanger.com ) have plenty of information, and they can also provide private rooms . If you decide to stay, there's plenty of choice. The cheapest option is the official HI hostel , Mosvangen , at Henrik Ibsens gate 21 (tel 51 87 09 77; A?10-15/$16-24; mid-May to mid-Sept), a 3km walk southwest of the centre. A good choice among several pensions is the Skagen Hotel og Gjestehus , Skansegaten 7 (tel 51 93 85 00; A?20-25/$32-40), which has newly redecorated rooms in an old wooden building on the east side of the harbour. All of the town's hotels offer summer discounts, including the Comfort Hotel Grand , Klubbgata 3 (tel 51 89 58 00; A?40/$64 and over), an excellent central choice with smart, modern rooms; and the delightful Skagen Brygge , Skagenkaien 30 (tel 51 85 00 00; A?40/$64 and over), a tastefully decorated modern place with enjoyable views over the harbour. For camping , the campsite next to the hostel (late May to early Sept) has cabins as well as caravan and tent pitches. For food , the CafA© Sting , by the tower on the Skagen at Valberget 3, dishes up some good, inexpensive fare - both Mediterranean and Norwegian dishes - and there's superb seafood at the pricey SjA?huset Skagen , Skagenkaien 16.
