Eating and drinking

Though there are several cheap restaurants in Colon serving the delicious local cuisine - usually seafood cooked to spicy Caribbean recipes - most are in dangerous parts of the city. In the evening, you are better off eating in or near your hotel.

Cafe Nacional , C 11 with Guerrero. Popular, with good, inexpensive food and a convenient location, which is fairly safe during the day. Closed Sun.

Cristobal Yacht Club , on the seafront inside the Cristobal port enclosure. The open-air restaurant, serving decent seafood, is expensive, but the atmospheric bar, shaped like a ship's prow, is a good place to hang out if you're looking for work as a linehandler on a yacht transiting the canal or heading out into the Caribbean.

Restaurante Hotel Internacional , on the ground floor of the hotel. Standard Panamanian and international food from about US$5, particularly good for breakfast. The rooftop bar (closed Sun), open to hotel guests only, is a good place to drink a sundowner and watch the ships lit up in the harbour at night while the city rages below.
