fiogf49gjkf0d Arequipa is the hub of most journeys in the southern half of Peru. As Peru's second city, it has reasonably good road connections and one of the few railway lines, so it's an almost unavoidable stopping-off point between Lima and both the Titicaca and Cusco regions. From Arequipa you can continue to either Titicaca or Cusco by bus, train or plane, and over the border to Chile by international bus.
Flights
land at Arequipa airport, 7km northwest of the town. A red shuttle bus meets most planes and will take you to any hotel in the town centre for $1; alternatively, a taxi will cost $3-4.
Trains
from Puno or Cusco arrive at the station on Avenida Tacna y Arica 201, seven blocks south of the Plaza de Armas; a taxi from here to the plaza costs around $2. Most long-distance
buses
arrive at the modern, concrete Terminal Terreste bus station or at the newer Terrapuerto, next door, around 4km from the centre of town; a taxi to the Plaza de Armas should cost $2 to $3.
