fiogf49gjkf0d Forget the horror stories about the iron hand of Catholicism. There is a
gay scene
in Warsaw. There is even a gay clerical scene. And the Poles would no more let themselves be told what to do by the Catholic Church (deeply religious though many of them are) than by the communists. For
information
check
. For gay and lesbian
literature
, check out the Odeon bookshop at ul. Hoza 19.
Like anywhere else, the scene changes rapidly in Warsaw. Though there are
gay pubs
(the most well-known is the
Kozla Pub
at ul. Kozla 10/12), most people meet in gay-friendly pubs with a mixed clientele. The current favourite is
Miedzy Nami
(meaning "between ourselves") at ul. Bracka 20; ignore the sign at the door announcing that "cards must be shown" - it's just a ruse to keep numbers controlled at weekends.
A couple of
clubs
stand out:
Paradise
, Skra stadium, ul. Wawelska 5, which has a friendly all-night disco (Thurs-Sat) with a great combination of acts - lesbian George Michael impersonators, drag queens and so on - with a few self-conscious straights snogging in the corner; and
Klub M
, ul. Walbrzyska 11, which has a daytime bar and an evening disco, a good 5km south of the centre, near Sulzew metro station.
