Greyhound and Intercape intercity buses drop passengers off at Bern's Service Station in Main Street, right in the centre of town, while Translux pulls into the train station in Remembrance Avenue opposite Knysna Quays; the Baz Bus will drop passengers off at any of the town's accommodation. The Outeniqua Choo-Tjoe , South Africa's last scheduled mixed goods and passenger steam train, which is more of a jaunt than a means of transport, runs between George and Knysna train station (via Goukamma, Sedgefield and Wilderness) twice daily in summer from Monday to Saturday; less frequently during winter; the journey which takes about 2hr 45min costs R50 single, R60 return; tel 044 382 1361. For local transport, there are a couple of taxi services.

Knysna Tourism, the tourist information bureau, at 40 Main St (Mon-Fri 8am-5pm, Sat 9am-1pm; slightly longer hours during the season; tel 044 382 5510, fax 044 382 1646, ), Gray St, can provide maps and information about the town and area. From the same office, they also run a free accommodation booking desk (tel 044 382 6960, fax 044 382 1609, booking@mweb.co.za ) and one for booking adventure activities around Knysna, from abseiling down The Heads to bungee jumping from the Gouritz River Bridge.
