It's easy to take a romantic view of the exotic hustle and bustle in the port area, but there's a miserable story behind some of it. Algeciras is the main port for
Moroccan migrant workers
, who drive home every year during their holidays from the factories, farms and mines of France, Germany and the Low Countries. Half a million cross Spain in the six weeks from the end of June to the beginning of August in often perilously overloaded vehicles, frequently becoming victims of all levels of racial discrimination (they are still referred to as
los Moros
