The best hostal choices are the RusiA±ol , c/San Antonio 76 (tel 918 910 155, fax 918 925 345; a?¬27-36), in the centre of town, and the Castilla , Carrera de Andalucia 98 (tel 918 912 627, fax 918 916 133; a?¬36-48). The campsite , Soto del Castillo , Soto del Rebollo (tel 918 911 395, fax 918 914 197), is on a far bend of the RAo Tajo; it's equipped with a swimming pool, and hires out bicycles and rowing boats. You'll find a helpful turismo in the Casa de Infantes, facing the Plaza de San Antonio (summer Tues-Sun 10am-2pm & 4-6pm; winter Tues-Sat 10am-1pm & 3-5pm, Sun 10am-2pm; tel 918 910 427, www.aranjuez.net ).

With plenty of fresh produce around (including the famous strawberries and asparagus in season), the splendid nineteenth-century Mercado de Abastos on c/Stuart is a good place to buy your own food for a picnic. If you're after a memorable restaurant meal, Casa JosA© , c/Abastos 32 (closed Sun eve & Mon), offers good, but expensive nouvelle cuisine , while Casa Pablo , c/AlmAbar 42 (closed Aug), is more traditional, with walls covered with pictures of local dignitaries and bullfighters; its nearby offshoot, Casa Pablete , c/Stuart 108 (closed Tues & Aug), is good for tapas. Probably the best-known restaurant is the pleasant riverside La Rana Verde , c/Reina 1, which dates back to the late nineteenth century and serves a wide-ranging menA? at a?¬10.80.
