Buses to Port de Pollenca from Palma, Alcudia, Port d'Alcudia and Port de Soller stop by the marina right in the town centre. Just inland, a couple of minutes' walk away, is the turisme , at c/Joan XXIII 46 (June-Sept Mon-Fri 9am-1.30pm & 4-7pm, Sat 9am-1pm; Oct-May Mon-Fri 8am-3.30pm, Sat 9am-1pm; tel 971 865 467). The flatlands edging the Badia de Pollenca and stretching as far as Alcudia and Pollenca make for easy, scenic cycling. Mountain bikes can be rented for €7.20 a day from a shop called March at c/Joan XXIII 89 (tel 971 864 784), as can mopeds and motorcycles . The walking holiday specialist Globespan has a waterfront office at Passeig Saralegui 114 (tel 971 864 711, globespan@atlas-iap.es ), where you can pay to join one of its day-long guided walks (from €10-€21 per person). The office will provide all the details; you should book a minimum of 24 hours beforehand.

There are several reasonably priced and convenient accommodation options, though getting a room in season may be difficult. Overlooking the tiny main square stands the pleasant Hostal Residencia Borras , Placa Miquel Capllonch 16 (tel 971 866 447, fax 971 865 093; €36-48), where most of the rooms are comfortably spacious and you can eat breakfast in the pretty little courtyard. On the seafront, the Hotel Miramar , Passeig Anglada Camarasa 39 (tel 971 866 400, fax 971 864 075; April-Oct; €60-90), is an attractive three-star hotel, with balconied rooms set behind a grand facade; also by the water is the friendly, unpretentious Hostal Residencia Eolo at Placa Enginyer Gabriel Roca 2 (tel 971 866 550, fax 971 866 301; €48-60), a hikers' favourite, where breakfast is included.

Among a plethora of restaurants , an excellent choice is the Restaurant Stay (tel 971 864 013) on the marina's Moll Vell jetty, a chic little place which features the freshest of seafood and charges under €36 for a full a la carte meal; it is a popular (and romantic) spot, so reservations are advised. There's also Restaurante El Pozo , c/Joan XXIII, 25 (tel 971 866 777), an informal, laid-back cafe-bar-cum-restaurant that offers a good range of local dishes and is less expensive than its seafront rivals; and the outstanding Restaurante Ivy Garden , c/Llevant 14 (tel 971 866 271), which features an inventive modern menu at reasonable prices. Dishes change, but examples of present offerings include fillet of salmon with pesto and lemon dressing for €10.85, duck with ginger sauce €13.25.
