Drinking and nightlife

There's no shortage of bars and clubs in Puerto, and from June to September the town is heaving all night with Spanish holiday-makers. In the winter months nightlife tends to be more limited, though there are dependable favourites along the Calle La Hoya, such as the nondescript bar and disco Penny Farthing at no. 32 or the grotto-themed bar La Gruta at no. 24 , where there's occasionally live music. The bulk of the clubs and discos are clustered along the Avenida del Generalisimo. There's plenty of variety (including, unusually for Tenerife, a few gay clubs), but in this fast-changing scene its hard to predict what will be "in" next. Most clubs stay open until around 5am most nights - and often won't get going until well after midnight - so there's plenty of time to explore.
