Bar-Galeria Enfrente Arte , c/Espiritu Santo 9, close to the Puerta de Almocabar in La Ciudad. The bar of the hotel of the same name stages art exhibitions plus frequent musical and literary events. The views towards the Serrania de Ronda through panoramic windows are wonderful. Open till late.

Bar Luciano , c/Arminan 42, La Ciudad. Pleasant bar-restaurant with a good-value menu for around €7.50.

Bar Valencia , c/Naranja 6, a couple of blocks east of Plaza del Socorro. Good platos combinados served up in an earthy atmosphere with an unbelievably cheap menu for around €3.50.

Bodega La Giralda , c/Nueva 19. Traditional and excellent tapas in a great setting.

Cafe Alba , c/Espinel 44. Piping hot churros and delicious breakfast coffee.

Don Miguel , Plaza de Espana. High-quality restaurant offering rondeno specialities such as perdiz estofado (partridge stew) along with a menu and a terrace with a marvellous view of the Tajo.

Dona Pepa , Plaza del Socorro. Family-run and reliable restaurant with some vegetarian possibilities and a separate cafeteria-bar serving bocadillos and freshly squeezed orange juice.

La Farola , Plaza Carmen Abela 9. Friendly and economical raciones and platos combinados place; open till late.

Parador de Ronda , Plaza de Espana. The parador 's elegant restaurant has a menu offering an excellent choice of local and regional dishes, many of them appearing on a bargain menu gastronomico for around €25.

Hotel Polo , c/Mariano Soubiron 8. Pricey but excellent restaurant.

Restaurante La Merced , Plaza de la Merced s/n. Good place for well-prepared platos combinados and has a menu for around €6.
