Some restaurant suggestions appear below, but good general areas to explore are the side streets around the church, or the beachfront for more expensive seafood restaurants. For picnic supplies, the town's market - the Mercat Nou - is very close to the train station, on Avinguda Artur Carbonell. Ice-cream fiends should check out Dino's , Passeig de la Ribera; Italiana , c/JesA?s; or Heladeria and Il Gelatieri , both on c/de les Parellades.

El Argentino , Pg AiguadolA§ 22. If you're sick of seafood this is the place for serious charcoal-grilled meat - especially beef - though a meal here will set you back a?¬18 upwards.

El Celler Vell , c/Sant Buenaventura 21. Very good Catalan food served up in rural-chic surroundings. Around a?¬12 a head or there's a very good-value a?¬6.60 menA? .

El Cisne , c/Sant Pere 4 (junction with c/de les Parellades). Nothing adventurous here, but you'll get well-cooked food in a dining room at the back of the bar - around a?¬10.50 for the menA? del dia .

Flamboyant , c/Pau Barrabeig, off c/Carreta. Rather expensive, but with a beautiful garden setting. Around a?¬24-30 a head unless you go for the a?¬16.20 menA? . Open daily from 8.30pm.

Mare Nostrum , Pg de Ribeira 60. Long-established fish restaurant situated on the seafront, with a menu that changes according to the catch and season. Around a?¬18 a head, unless you stick to the platos del dia .

Nieuw Amsterdam , c/de les Parellades 70. Medium-priced Indonesian and Dutch specialities.

Olivers , c/Illa de Cuba 39. A mid-priced Spanish, rather than Catalan, restaurant, but the menu has some interesting flourishes that make the food memorable. Meals from around a?¬18 a head. Open daily from 8.30pm.

El Trull , c/MossA?n FA©lix ClarA  3, off c/Major. Fairly pricey French-style restaurant in the old town, though with careful selection you could get away with around a?¬12 for a meal.

Los Vikingos , c/MarquA©s de Mont Roig 18. Good, cheap restaurant right on the main tourist drag serving anything and everything (including fresh fish) accompanied by loud music.
