City transport

Although you can comfortably walk between the most central temples, bicycles are handy and can be rented for B30-50 a day at places on the eastern moat. Many places around Tha Pae Gate rent out motorbikes (from B100); the reliable Queen Bee Travel Service, 5 Thanon Moonmuang (tel 053/275525), can also offer limited insurance. Chiang Mai's one bus , the pink B9, runs from Khwan Wiang housing estate past the airport and then in a clockwise route around the old city, returning to the airport and the housing estate. Quicker and more efficient are the red songthaews (other colours serve outlying villages), which act as shared taxis within the city, picking up people headed in roughly the same direction and taking each to their specific destination; expect to pay B10 from the train station to Tha Pae Gate. The city is also stuffed with tuk-tuks (B30 from the train station to Tha Pae Gate) and samlors .
