fiogf49gjkf0d The
train station
is at the top of town facing Westborough; buses pull up outside or in the surrounding streets, though the National Express services stop in the car park behind the station. Within town, the
seafront buses
run throughout the summer from the
Corner CafAŠ
in North Bay to the Spa Complex in South Bay. Scarborough's
tourist office
is in Pavilion House, Valley Bridge Road (daily: May-Sept 9.30am-6pm; Oct-April 10am-4.30pm; tel 01723/373333), just over the road from the station.
Scarborough is crammed with inexpensive
hotels and guest houses
. Happy hunting grounds include North Bay's Queen's Parade, where most of the guest houses have sweeping bay views; to be closer to the castle head up its continuation, Blenheim Terrace, where a score more options await. The cheapest places in town are those without the sea views - try along central Aberdeen Walk (off Westborough), or on North Marine Road and Trafalgar Square, behind Queen's Parade. Above South Bay, hotels tend to be pricier, though there's a clutch of B&Bs along and around West Street.
Scarborough is also home to the renowned
Stephen Joseph Theatre
, on the corner of Westborough and Valley Bridge Road, opposite the train station (tel 01723/370541,
). Housed in a former Art Deco cinema, this premieres every new play of local playwright Alan Ayckbourn and promotes strong seasons of theatre and film; a good cafAŠ/restaurant and bar is open daily except Sunday.
