Ferries (tel 907/983-2229) and two independent operators arrive daily from Haines at the foot of the main thoroughfare, Broadway, and just a block from the train station from where two to five trains a day run over the White Pass to Fraser, British Columbia. Here you can connect with buses to Whitehorse, Yukon. Alaska Direct buses (tel 1-800/780-6652) also run daily in summer direct to Whitehorse ($35), from where trips run to Anchorage ($145) and Fairbanks ($120) three times a week; Alaskon Express offers a similar service from the Westmark Inn on Third Avenue (tel 907/983-2241).

Skagway is very compact, and most of the sights can easily be seen on foot.
