Mabel G Smith's 342 5th Ave at Broadway tel 907/983-2609. Low-key espresso bar with the best coffee in town and glazed pumpkin cookies that have a reputation throughout the north. Red Onion Saloon Broadway at 2nd Ave tel 907/983-2222. An 1898 bar and former bordello with heaps of character, draft beers and excellent pizza.
