Groton-New London Airport (tel 860/445-8549) has a limited service to the rest of New England, along with several car rental outlets on-site; you can also arrive year-round in New London by car ferry from Orient Point on Long Island (Cross Sound Ferry, 2 Ferry St, tel 860/443-5281, ). Reservations are strongly recommended. Greyhound and Bonanza both serve the town, which is also the center of SEAT's far from comprehensive local bus system (tel 860/886-2631).

The New London Trolley Info Station has brochures and helpful staff at the corner of Golden Street and Eugene O'Neill Drive (tel 860/444-7264). It's open daily in the summer, 10am-4pm; in winter, Fri-Sun 10am -4pm. The Southeastern Connecticut Chamber of Commerce has offices at 105 Huntington St (tel 860/443-8332) but is only open weekdays. New London is generally a less expensive place to stay than Mystic, with reasonably priced motels along I-95, including the Holiday Inn , I-95 and Frontage Road (tel 860/442-0631 or 1-800/HOLIDAY; $100-130), and the Red Roof Inn , 707 Colman St (tel 860/444-0001 or 1-800/RED-ROOF, ; $50-75). Additionally, in Groton there are plenty of budget motels off I-95 exit 86, including a Super 8 (tel 860/448-2818 or 1-800/800-8000; $50-75).
