Barbecue , once the unfashionable food of the poor, is big news in Kansas City - cheap, cheerful, hickory-smoked and served with tasty sauces. The Country Club Plaza has some great places, but they tend to be overpriced and some require formal dress. The restaurants in Crown Center and around Westport are more casual.

Serving the largest portions you've ever seen of barbecue and beans; the combo plate easily feeds two hefty appetites. This is serious business - be sure not to dawdle in the queue, as novices are given short shrift.
