A self-proclaimed "upscale diner," this big, lively joint just off downtown serves up traditional food (meatloaf) with new twists (chili-onion rings and buttermilk mash). Huge portions, especially the desserts; lunch entrees around $8, dinner $14. Cup O' Joe Coffee & Dessert House 627 S 3rd St, German Village tel 614/221-1JOE. Voted Columbus's best coffee house, it offers great desserts and coffees and comfy sofas. Katzinger's 475 S 3rd St, German Village tel 614/228-3354. A mesmerizing range of sandwiches, Jewish munchies and cheesecakes, though prices are high for a deli. Out on Main 122 E Main St tel 614/224-9520. Newish gay-themed restaurant with fabulous atmosphere and a great menu to match. Planet Hollywood esque exhibits include Melissa Etheridge's guitar, Greg Louganis's Speedo and a Liberace display. Schmidt's Restaurant und Sausage Haus 240 E Kossuth St, German Village tel 614/444-6808. The Columbus landmark (since 1886) serves schnitzel and strudel in a former slaughterhouse.
