Cody's showpiece Western hotel , the Irma at 1192 Sheridan Ave (tel 307/587-4221 or 1-800/745-4762; $75-100/$100-130), was named for Buffalo Bill's daughter in 1902, and retains a superb original cherrywood bar. Among good-value motels, the friendly Skyline Motor Inn , high above town on the main through highway at 1919 17th St (tel 307/587-4201 or 1-800/843-8809; $35-100), stands out. Sheridan Avenue is the place for an evening's eating and entertainment .
You may need a cowboy hat to really feel comfortable at
Cassie's
, 214 Yellowstone Ave, where entertainment ranges from line-dancing classes to country and country-rock bands, and you can settle in for a full evening including dinner, although the menu is surprisingly expensive. After a steak at the always-packed
Irma
's, call in for a drink at the
Proud Cut Saloon
