Banks and exchange Most banks and exchanges can now arrange cash advances on Visa and Mastercard, some on JCB (usual fee is 3-4 percent) and electronic money transfers from abroad. 24-hour cash dispensers (ATMs) can be found at HSBC and ANZ; both accept Cirrus, Plus, Visa and Mastercard, with a small fee automatically deducted. HSBC, New World Hotel Building, 75 Pham Hong Thai Street (Mon-Thurs 8.30am-4.30pm, Fri 8.30am-5pm), will only change cash and travellers' cheques for HSBC members, but do cash advances against credit cards at good rates for non-members. ANZ, 11 me Linh Square (Mon-Fri 8.30am-4pm) charges slightly higher rates for travellers' cheques and cash exchange. Vietcombank, main branch at 17 & 29 Chuong Duong, also at 132-134 Dong Khoi (Mon-Fri 7.30-11.30am & 1-4pm), offers marginally better rates, as do Vietincombank, 79a Ham Nghi (Mon-Fri 7.30-11am & 1-4pm) and Tacombank, 31 Bui Vien (Mon-Sat 7.30-11.30am & 1.30-4.30pm). Outside normal banking hours, try the Vietcombank bureaux within Fiditourist, 195 Pham Nhu Lao (Mon-Sat 7.30-11.30am & 1.30-9pm), the airport exchanges (daily 8am-9pm) or Sacombanks foreign exchange annexe on the corner of Pham Ngu Lao at 211 Nguyen Thai Hoc (Mon-Fri 7.30-11.30am & 1-7.30pm, Sat 7.30am-noon, Sun 8-11.30am & 1.30-4.30pm). Otherwise, foreign exchange kiosks on Nguyen Hue and Le Loi have extensive daily opening times. Emergencies Dial 113 for the police, 114 in case of fire or 115 for an ambulance; it's advisable to get a Vietnamese-speaker to call on your behalf. Hospitals and clinics Oscat/AEA international Clinic, 65 Nguyen Du (tel 08/829 8520), has international doctors with a standard consultation fee of $80 and upwards; they can also arrange vaccinations and emergency evacuation; Columbia Asia International Clinic, 1 No Trang Long (tel 08/803 0678), has multinational doctors, charging $48 and upwards for consultations; Cholon's Cho Ray Hospital, at 201 Nguyen Chi Thanh (tel 08/855 4137), has an outpatients' room for foreigners ($4 per consultation) and foreigners' ward ($20 per night); St Paul Hospital, 280 Dien Bien Phu (tel 08/829 8732), is an eye specialist, charging around $6 per consultation. Immigration Department The ministry of the interior, 254-258 Nguyen Trai, at the junction with Nguyen Cu Trinh. Internet access Many hotels have business centres; there are numerous internet and email outlets on and around De Tham and Pham Ngu Lao. Most prominent is SaigonNet, offering Internet access at 400d a minute, and computer use at 4000d an hour; at 220 De Tham, SaigonNet have a scanner and web-designing facilities. Viet Quang Public Internet, 271 Pham Ngu Lao, has the same rates, with scanner and hourly computer use. Downtown, try the Saigon Business Centre, 41-47 Dong Du, or Tin Cafe, 2a Le Duan, which has mail-box addresses and hourly computer rental. Pharmacies There are several around Pham Ngu Lao area, including 214 De Tham and 81 Bui Vien. Downtown, there are pharmacies at 197-199 Dong Khoi, 199 and 205 Hai Ba Trung and 14a Nguyen Dinh Chieu. Post offices The GPO (daily 6am-10pm) is beside the cathedral at the head of Dong Khoi. Poste restante is kept here, but incoming faxes (tel 08/829 8540) are held nearby at 230 Hai Ba Trung, and there's a 50? pick-up fee. There are also post offices at 125 Cong Quynh and 199-205 Nguyen Thai Hoc, serving the Pham Ngu Lao area, and one at Ga Saigon (Railway station) - all of which have poste restante. Telephone services There are IDD, fax and telex facilities at the GPO and numerous IDD telephone kiosks around De Tham and Pham Ngu Lao, plus IDD facilities at most hotels.
