Opening hours and holidays

Shops
generally open Mon-Sat between 9am-1pm and 3pm-6 or 7pm except for the large shopping centres which are popular in Portugal and stay open until 10pm or midnight. Larger supermarkets tend to stay open until 8pm.
Museums, churches and monuments
open from around 10am to 6pm; almost all museums and monuments, however, are closed on Mondays, and at Easter, when cultural life seems to cease completely.
