St Vincent grows a variety of fruit and vegetables, among them oranges, breadfruit and avocado. The island also produces 90 percent of the world's supply of arrowroot , a plant whose starch is used in cooking and in making glossy computer paper. Fresh seafood is abundant on the islands, ranging from lobster to flying fish, with conch being particularly abundant.

While larger restaurants generally serve a mix of West Indian and international cuisine, you will almost always find rotis , curries and jerk chicken on offer. Vegetarians will find that most large cafA©s and restaurants cater for them, although smaller towns and islands may not be as amenable.

The beer of choice is Hairoun (the Carib name for St Vincent), brewed at the St Vincent Brewery in Kingstown, along with Guinness and a selection of popular soft drinks , such as ginger beer, tonic and soda water.

When dining out, bear in mind that prices generally increase after 7pm when most establishments switch to their more expensive dinner menus, and the number of inexpensive dining options dwindles significantly
