SINGAPORE IS LOCATED ON THE SOUTHERN TIP OF THE MALAY
PENINSULA 136.8 KM NORTH OF THE EQUATOR. IT IS LINKED TO
MALAYSIA BY A 1.056 KM CAUSEWAY CROSSING THE JOHOR STRAIT.
THE INDONESIAN ISLANDS ARE CLEARLY VISIBLE TO THE SOUTH
WITH THAILAND AND THE PHILIPPINES BUT A SHORT PLANE RIDE
AWAY TO THE NORTH. SINGAPORE IS AT THE CROSSROADS OF ASIA.

THE REPUBLIC CONSISTS OF THE MAIN ISLAND - 41.8 KM LONG
AND 22.9 KM WIDE AND SOME 57 ISLETS, GIVING A TOTAL LAND
AREA OF 622.6 SQ KM. THE LAND IS GENERALLY UNDULATING,
WITH A NUMBER OF LOW HILLS, THE TALLEST BEING THE 162.5
METRE BUKIT TIMAH.

A DENSE NETWORK OF SHORT STREAMS DRAINS THE ISLAND. THE
GREATEST DENSITY OF RAIN FOREST IS IN THE BUKIT TIMAH
NATURE RESERVE IN THE CENTRAL UPLANDS.
