The Singapore Tourism Board (STB) maintains three Tourist Information Centres . One is at Tourism Court, 1 Orchard Spring Lane (Mon-Fri 8.30am-5pm, Sat 8.30am-1pm; toll-free tel 1-800/736 2000); another at Liang Court Shopping Centre, Level 1, 177 River Valley Rd (daily 10.30am-9.30pm; tel 336 2888); and the third at 01-35 Suntec City Mall, 3 Temasek Boulevard (daily 8am-8pm; toll-free tel 1-800/332 5066). The most useful of their free hand-outs is the Singapore Official Guide. The best what's on listings publications are the weekly 8 Days magazine ($1.50), and the newer IS, a free paper published fortnightly. Recommended maps include the Nelles Singapore, and the Singapore Street Directory, though, again, the STB has free maps.

With so many of Singapore's shops, restaurants and offices located in vast high-rise buildings and shopping centres, deciphering addresses can sometimes be tricky. #02-15 means room number 15 on the second floor; #10-08 is room number 8 on the tenth floor. Bear in mind that in Singapore, ground level is referred to as #01, or the first floor.
