on local attractions and transport, call in at the efficient Tourism Authority of Thailand (TAT) (
www.tat.or.thw),
which has offices in Bangkok and 22 regional towns, all open daily 8.30am-4.30pm. Independent tour operators and information desks crop up in tourist spots all over the country, but be on the lookout for self-interested advice. The best
map
of the country is Bartholomew's 1:1,500,000 map of Thailand. Other useful information
