BANGLADESH IS A SMALL COASTAL COUNTRY OF SOUTH CENTRAL
ASIA THAT COVERS AN AREA OF 143,998 KM. IT HAS AN
IRREGULAR COASTLINE FACING THE BAY OF BENGAL AND IS
BORDERED BY MYANMAR ON THE SOUTHEAST AND THE INDIA STATES

THE COUNTRY'S LANDSCAPE IS DOMINATED BY THE CONFLUENCE
OF THE GANGES-PADMA, BRAHMAPUTRA AND MEGHNA RIVER SYSTEMS
AND THE LOWLYING AREAS SURROUNDING THEM IN THE WEST.
THE BHAR BASIN LIES BETWEEN THE GANGES AND BRAHMAPUTRA
IN THE WEST AND AN ELEVATED PLATEAU, THE MADHUPAR TRACT,
LIES NORTH OF THE PADMA RIVER BETWEEN THE BRAHMAPUTRA AND
MEGHNA RIVERS AND IN THE SOUTHERNMOST PART OF THE COUNTRY,
DHAKA, THE NATION'S CAPITAL.

HIGHLANDS OCCUR IN THE EAST AND NORTHEAST AND INCLUDE THE
SYLHET HILLS RANGING FROM 600 TO 900 M AND THE HILLY
CHITTAGONG AREA IN THE SOUTHEAST. THE COUNTRY'S HIGHEST
PEAK, THE KEOKRADONG, 1230M, IS LOCATED IN THIS AREA.
