THE NETHERLANDS ARE SITUATED IN NORTHWEST EUROPE, COVERING
AN AREA OF 41,548SQ KM. GERMANY BORDERS THE COUNTRY TO THE
EAST, BELGIUM TO THE SOUTH, AND THE NORTH SEA TO THE WEST
AND THE NORTH.
THE NETHERLANDS CAN BE DIVIDED INTO TWO REGIONS; THE HIGH
AND THE LOW REGION.

THE HIGH REGION IS SITUATED IN THE SOUTH AND EAST AND
COMPRISES OF LARGE PLAINS AND HIGH RIDGES. THESE RIDGES
NEVER REACH OVER 100M ABOVE SEA LEVEL. THE HIGHEST POINT IN
THE COUNTRY IS MOUNT VAALSERBERG AT 347M.

THE LOW REGION IS SITUATED IN THE SOUTHWEST, WEST,
NORTHWEST AND NORTH. IT IS MADE UP OF THE COMMON DELTA OF
THE RHINE, SCHELDT AND THE MAAS RIVERS.

COASTAL REGIONS ARE GENERALLY BELOW SEA LEVEL. ENCLOSING
THE POLDERS, IS A LONG RANGE OF SAND DUNES, STRENGTHENED BY
MAN MADE DIKES. THESE ALSO PROTECT SOME OF THE LOW REGION
FROM HIGH TIDES. THE COUNTRY'S LONGEST RIVERS ARE THE
MEUSE, THE RHINE AND THE SCHELDE.
