Although Panama City teems with foreign workers, without a permit there are few opportunities for work in Panama. There are some English schools , but no shortage of teachers. With patience, luck or charm you may be able to find work crewing on a yacht , as a linehandler as it passes through the canal or even onwards into the Caribbean. Finally, the environmental organization ANCON (tel 314 0060, www.ancon.org ) accepts volunteers to work on conservation programmes throughout Panama.
