Almost all towns have a tourist office ( Verkehrs-verein or Tourismus ; Office du Tourisme ; Ente Turistico ), invariably located beside or opposite the train station and always extremely useful. Most staff speak English and are scrupulously helpful, but opening hours in smaller towns allow for a long lunch and can be limited at weekends and in the off-season. All of them have lists of local accommodation and transport information, and provide local and regional maps . The Federal Office of Topography ( www.swisstopo.ch ) has excellent 1:50,000 and 1:25,000 walkers' maps.
