fiogf49gjkf0d Post offices
tend to open Mon-Fri 7.30am-noon & 1.30-6.30pm, Sat 8-11am, although watch out for regional variations and restricted hours in smaller branches. It costs Sfr1.10 to send a postcard to Europe, Sfr1.80 worldwide.
Public phones
are operated by Swisscom; a few still accept coins, but the majority take only phonecards (
taxcards
), available from post offices, newsagents and vending machines in Sfr5, Sfr10 and Sfr20 denominations. Phones that take phonecards also accept credit cards. Many news kiosks and train stations also sell good-value cards from other companies (such as diAx) for calling internationally. The expensive operator is on tel 111 (domestic) and tel 1141 (international); directory enquiries is on tel 1159. You can use Swisscom phonecards in Liechtenstein.
For
Internet access
, there are cybercafes in all towns (Sfr8-13/hr), and you'll also find access at some hostels, main train stations and for free at the airports. You can send a short
email
from the screens in all phonebooths for Sfr0.90, but you can't pick up any email this way. The same screens let you send an SMS
text message
to any mobile phone for Sfr0.90.
