Coming from any of the other Scandinavian countries, Denmark seems remarkably cheap, with prices roughly only 10-20 percent higher than other western European countries. Danish currency is the krone (plural kroner), made up of 100 ore, and it comes in notes of 50kr, 100kr, 200kr, 500kr, 1000kr, and coins of 25ore, 50ore, 1kr, 2kr, 5kr, 10kr, 20kr. Banks are the best places to change travellers' cheques and foreign cash; there's a uniform commission of 30kr per transaction, so change as much as possible in one go. Banking hours are Mon-Fri 10am-4pm, Thurs until 6pm. Most airports and ferry terminals have late-opening exchange facilities, and automatic cash machines are everywhere.
