FERROVIE DELLO STATO - THE ITALIAN STATE RAILWAY, HAS A
LARGE RAILWAY SYSTEM THROUGHOUT THE COUNTRY. FARE ARE NOT
EXPENSIVE AND ARE AMONG THE CHEAPEST IN EUROPE. THERE ARE
SEVERAL DIFFERENT TYPES OF TRAINS, FOR EXAMPLE,
EC EUROCITY - AN INTERNATIONAL EXPRESS TRAIN WITH VERY FEW
STOPS, CONSISTING OF FIRST AND SECOND CLASS CARRIAGES.

IC INTERCITY - THIS IS ANOTHER EXPRESS, WITH VERY FEW
STOPS.
R RAPIDO - LONG DISTANCE EXPRESS, STOPPING IN MOST MAJOR
CITIES.
EXP EXPRESSO - LONG DISTANCE TRAIN, WHICH STOPS AT THE

LITTORINA - A SMALL DIESEL TRAIN, USED ONLY FOR THE
SHORTEST RUNS.
TOILETS AND WASHING FACILITIES ARE AVAILABLE ON ALL TRAINS.

AIR:
ALITALIA, ATI AND AERMEDITERRANEA CONNECT MOST ITALIAN
CITIES.

SEA:
FERRY OR DRAGHETTO, MOST HAVING CAR FACILITIES CONNECT THE
ISLANDS OFF ITALY WITH THE MAINLAND. JET FOILS ARE ALSO
AVAILABLE AND TEND TO BE FASTER AND MORE COMFORTABLE, BUT
ALSO MORE EXPENSIVE.
SARDINIA CAN BE REACHED BY FERRY FROM THE PORT OF BONIFACIO
ON CORSICA.
