fiogf49gjkf0d Post office
(
pasts
) opening times are generally Monday to Friday 8am-7pm. For
telephone
calls there are modern digital call boxes operated using magnetic cards - which come in 2, 5 and 10Ls denominations and can be bought at the post office and most stores. As Latvia is in the process of switching from analogue to digital the whole telephone system, while good, is confusing and area codes are in flux. When in Latvia, for all calls to analogue phones (those with six-digit numbers) you should dial 2 before the six-digit number. If you're calling a digital phone (those with seven-digit numbers) from an analogue phone, dial 1 and wait for a tone before dialling the number. The Riga city code (2) should be used if you're calling the capital from elsewhere in the country, but is omitted when you're calling from abroad. Direct international calls are only possible from digital phones - dial 00 followed by the country code, area code and number. Analogue users have to book international calls through the operator (dial 8 then 15).
Riga is well served by an increasing number of
Internet cafes
, although they are yet to appear in any of the regional centres. Prices are around 1L/hr.
